Behind the Vision

This project began as a design for merch to accompany Rissa Vibes' new album release, but the concepts resonated so strongly with the her that they evolved into the official album cover art for Trap Alchemist!

The album’s tagline "Untrapping Trap Music" speaks to Rissa's mission to transform the typical themes found in trap music - often rooted in materialism & misogyny - by infusing her work with spiritual, conscious & uplifting narratives.

Her music aims to reimagine the trap genre, and she wanted a vibrant & bold album cover to express this message.

Progress Sketches

We explored several iterations to ensure the design felt both edgy and spiritual to be aligned with the album’s theme.

In the process, we created multiple versions of the artwork for different uses, including social media, streaming platforms, and more.

Each variation brought something unique to the table, and I thought they all turned out so cool that I just had to share them here!

Design Elements

Rissa was keen to include themes of alchemy & transformation, blending the gritty aesthetic of trap with cosmic and mystical visuals.

The 'west side' hand gesture was incorporated to represent the genre’s roots, the kundalini snake symbolises spiritual energy, and the potion bottle imagery evokes the idea of an alchemist mixing magic to create something new - just as Rissa is doing 🥰

We both adored the resulting artwork and felt it was truly a unique interpretation of trap music through the lens of spiritual growth and empowerment.
