Root 2 Grid | See Post

So i've been obsessed with using this root 2 grid (which is a design grid) for the little mini illustrations. But why? I'm looking to overlap design and illustration in an interesting way. And I love the ideas of grids as a designer, and often use them in my actual design work. So I'm always trying to find an interesting way to display these mini landscape illustrations. More about how this root 2 grid is somewhat connected to the golden ration in terms of proportion. And really is a good framework for a lot of what we do as designers and illustrators.

Connecting Root 2 Rectangle and Golden Ratio

The root 2 rectangle and the golden ratio are both fundamental concepts in design that create visually pleasing proportions:

  • Root 2 Rectangle: This rectangle has a ratio of 1:√2 (approximately 1:1.414). It's formed when you double the area of a square.

  • Golden Ratio: This has a ratio of 1:1.618 and is found throughout nature and classical art.

While these ratios are different, they both create harmonious compositions that are naturally appealing to the human eye. Your illustration series beautifully demonstrates how these mathematical principles can be used as a foundation for creative exploration.
