1981년 (故)이희건 신한은행 명예회장을 주축으로 당시 일본 관서지방 재일동포 골프동호인들이 모국 골프계와 친선을 도모하고 모국 골프 발전 및 우수선수 육성을 위해 창설한 것이 시한동해오픈의 시초입니다.
국내 최고 상금의 타이틀을 안고 탄생한 신한동해오픈은 대회 초창기부터 국내외 유명 프로골퍼들이 참가하였고 국제대회로 아시아 전역에 이름을 알리게 됩니다.
신한동해오픈이 40년 넘는 전통을 이어올 수 있었던 것은 신한금융그룹이라는 든든한 동반자를 만났기 때문입니다.
신한은행은 1989년 신한동해오픈의 주최사가 되며 현재까지 35년간 투자를 이어오고 있으며 이는 대한민국 스폰서 프로골프대회 중 가장 오랜 기록입니다.
2019년부터는 KPGA투어, JGTO 일본골프투어, 아시안투어까지 3개 투어가 공동 주관하며 매년 아시아 골프 최강자를 가리는 ‘명인전’ 컨셉으로 개최되고 있습니다.

KAZE PARK (Seungwoo Park), an artist who has worked on exhibitions and projects with various sports broadcasting brands such as Coupang Play, ESPN, and KBS, as well as featuring athletes like Son Heung-min, Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo, and Park Chan-ho, has created a commemorative artwork for the 40th anniversary of the Shinhan Donghae Open.
He was eager to see how the imagined moments from a golf tournament would be captured in his artwork. The Shinhan Donghae Open, which has established itself as the most prestigious tournament in Korean men's professional golf, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
The Shinhan Donghae Open originated in 1981, spearheaded by the late Lee Hee-gon, Honorary Chairman of Shinhan Bank. It was founded by Korean-Japanese golf enthusiasts in the Kansai region of Japan to foster friendship with the Korean golf community and to contribute to the development of golf in Korea and the nurturing of talented players.
With the title of the highest prize money in Korea, the Shinhan Donghae Open has attracted famous professional golfers from both Korea and abroad since its early days and has become known throughout Asia as an international tournament.
The tournament's ability to sustain its 40-plus-year tradition is largely due to the strong partnership with Shinhan Financial Group.
Since 1989, when Shinhan Bank became the official organizer of the Shinhan Donghae Open, they have continued their investment for 35 years, making it the longest-standing sponsor of a professional golf tournament in Korea.
Since 2019, the tournament has been co-organized by the KPGA Tour, JGTO (Japan Golf Tour Organization), and the Asian Tour, and is held each year with the concept of determining the strongest golfer in Asia.
The 40th-anniversary commemorative artwork of the Shinhan Donghae Open has been completed, featuring the artworks of 34 past champions.
