Interrupted Egg | Gouache Paint Illustration

gouache illustration of an egg reading in its shell

Sometimes when I’m baking, I feel rude when I need to crack an egg. I am easily irritated when interrupted painting, reading, zoning out into space, etc. I can be alone in my studio for hours, not eating or talking to anyone, and I feel perfectly content. I similarly imagine this cozy yolk chilling in its comfy shell. If it were not for me, it would remain like this undisturbed. Yet by cracking the egg, I am utilizing it for a wonderful purpose to come in the form of a tasty treat. Normal life sometimes feels like an interruption from my imagination. Reminding myself that I am both the egg and the baker, I am reframing interruptions as not inherently negative things. With a graceful mind shift, I reshape disturbances as part of living and ultimately a part of my greater purpose. This helps me accept any cracks in my expectations of the day with patience and hope.
