Making of Sambrush Font: A Designer's Perspective
Designing the Sambrush Font was an immersive experience that allowed me to blend the organic, handcrafted feel of brush strokes with the precision of digital design. My goal was to create a font that captures the raw energy and expressiveness of brush lettering, making it ideal for a variety of creative projects.
Concept and Inspiration
The inspiration for Sambrush Font came from the dynamic and spontaneous nature of brush strokes. I wanted to create a font that feels alive and full of movement, reminiscent of hand-painted signs and expressive calligraphy.
Design Process
Initial Sketching and Brushwork: The process began with traditional sketching and brushwork on paper. I explored various brush techniques to capture the right texture and fluidity that would define the Sambrush Font. This stage was crucial for understanding how the brushstrokes would translate into digital form.
Digital Conversion in Adobe Illustrator: After finalizing the brushwork, I scanned the sketches and imported them into Adobe Illustrator. Using Illustrator's powerful vector tools, I carefully traced the brushstrokes to maintain the authenticity of the hand-painted texture while ensuring the font remained clean and versatile.
Texture and Detailing: A key aspect of Sambrush Font is its textured appearance, which mimics the irregularities and variations of real brush strokes. I focused on preserving these details during the vectorization process, ensuring that each character retained its unique, handcrafted feel.
Vector Refinement: Once the basic shapes were in place, I refined each character by adjusting the vector paths. This step involved fine-tuning the curves and edges to maintain the natural flow of the brush strokes while ensuring consistency across the font.
Kerning and Spacing: Proper kerning and spacing were essential to balance the expressive nature of the brush strokes with readability. I spent significant time adjusting these elements to ensure the font performs well in various sizes and contexts, whether used for headlines or artistic designs.
Testing and Feedback: The final stage involved testing the font in different design scenarios and gathering feedback. This iterative process was key to making final adjustments and ensuring that Sambrush Font met the high standards I set out to achieve.
