Spiek treatment materials - Take ownership of your dyslexia

Working on dyslexia is about more than developing reading and spelling skills. Working on self-confidence and accepting dyslexia as something that will always remain is also important. For Opdidakt we have developed a set of materials with which practitioner and child together actively work towards goals set by the child. With little text and lots of images and interaction. The Spiek treatment materials complete the Opdidakt dyslexia treatment method alongside the already developed Spiek Digital environment.

Designing for collaboration

Children with dyslexia usually don't feel like practicing more. Especially not if it means reading and writing. We challenged ourselves to look for other forms of interaction that put the child in an active position. Thanks to card sets, sticker sheets, wooden pawns and a game board, the treatment no longer feels like a lesson, but a joint adventure for practitioner and child.

Handle for practitioners

The practitioner is still essential in shaping treatments. We actively involved practitioners in our design process. This is how we managed to come up with a versatile set of materials that each practitioner can use to support and enhance his or her own style of treatment.

What does it mean to have dyslexia?

Dyslexia is not just about reading and spelling, it is often accompanied by fear of failure and a negative self-image. To help children with dyslexia, we also made an animated video that shows that reading and spelling are actually quite complicated. And that it is not surprising that your brain sometimes has trouble with it.

The physical launch prior to Spiek Digital

Practitioners can use the Spiek treatment materials in their own way. Each tool is designed for a particular situation. The map sets are very visual and easy for the practitioner to use. The map leaves a lot to the imagination and allows you to really engage with the trajectory in space and empathize with it more easily. The backpack and bulletin board can be personalized, so each tool has its own things that make them perfect to use at the right time.
