Welfare Dashboard - Neighbourhood well-being in focus
The Amsterdam Wellbeing Dashboard is a collaboration between neighborhood residents and researchers from the University of Amsterdam. The goal is to really advance neighborhood well-being by involving residents more closely and in new ways. We had the honor of designing and producing a tool (aka the cart) that translated the existing (textual) surveys into interactive and activating questions.
Motivation through game principles
At this cart, residents can go through the questions in an arcade game-inspired way. With an emphasis on visual and auditory elements, we ensure that everyone can participate, even if you are not yet proficient in the Dutch language, and have fun leaving your opinion.
Data that really matters for local policy
By moving away from abstract traditional surveys, we are collecting quantitative data in new ways. The data resulting from the answers given is readily available to UvA scientists in real-time. In collaboration with local government and stakeholder organizations, among others, the scientists can focus on and substantiate the well-being of residents. The expertise residents have thus plays a key role in the formation of local policy.
Taking the cart into the neighborhood
We designed the cart so that it's easy to move around and can be put down wherever you want to start the conversation with residents. That way the research doesn't have to be done in a fixed location, but you can go with the energy of the city. The launch took place at the Kwaku festival. In the coming months, the cart will mainly be found in Amsterdam in the Venserpolder neighborhood, but it is of course free to roll to wherever neighborhood participation is desired.
