Spiek digital - The interactive dyslexia method

Opdidakt has been helping children with various learning and behavioral problems for years. This includes children with dyslexia. They challenged us to use today's technological possibilities to develop their knowledge into a contemporary treatment method. We transformed their paper method into an activating visual platform with interaction, gamification and animation.

Playful learning with a purple quadruped

Spiek is the hero of this story. As a child, you go on adventures with him and meet all kinds of other animals. Without realizing it, you learn the -d and -t sounds from a horse in a boat reading the newspaper. The crow (-aai) messes (-oei) her fries in the cage (-ooi) and you have already learned three sounds together with Spiek. Interactive exercises, videos and sound clips alternate to create an engaging experience.

Sharp senses

The goal of the platform was to focus on as little written text as possible. It is quite frustrating to have to be able to read when you are learning to read. All assignments are visual, read aloud, sounds and animations provide feedback and so is sensory connected to text. This is how we make the best use of the other talents of children with dyslexia.

Proven didactics in a new style

Opdidakt's dyslexia treatment method has been well established for years. Making the translation into an interactive platform was therefore quite a challenge. Our designers put themselves in the shoes of the method developers, dyslexia specialists and therapists to develop innovative concepts with respect for the existing knowledge. Despite the great contrast between the old treatment folders and the new platform, the implementation was a success from the start, because each practitioner was able to use his/her knowledge again but in an even better way.
