About This Project

Backstory & Purpose:

  • Park n Pay (PAPAY) Smart Parking Mobile App is a project for competition in the computer science category at the International Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists (IICYMS) 2022. In this project, I acted as a UI/UX Designer, and my team succeeded in getting a Gold Medal & Special Award from the Malaysian Young Scientist Organization (MYSO)

  • This project aims to optimize unused land to be used as a parking area by placing sensors (IoT) controlled via a mobile app.

Problem:

  • The problem we are trying to solve is the large amount of unproductive land owned by the community, especially in residential and urban areas, which are not used for buildings or anything; it is just left as empty land.

  • On the other hand, people often find it challenging to find parking spaces in urban areas, so they end up parking on the side of the road because they need to know the legal empty spaces available for parking.

Solution

1). User Research:

  • The method used was field studies, in which our team observed the surrounding environment both directly and indirectly and found that PAPAY could become the solution to benefit land owners, users, and developers.

  • Landowners get income by permitting their land to be used for parking without having to be looked after all because the advanced IoT sensors already handle it. Users could easily find parking spaces with transparent rates & reservable upon arrival. Then, developers have benefited from service fees.

2). Wireframing:

After having a clear vision and conducting user research, I immediately create wireframes. In total, at least 18 screens were crafted for the PAPAY apps.

3). Hi-Fi & Prototype:

  • After the wireframe was available, I developed it into a high-fidelity design and a prototype of 20 screens.

  • The blue color palette was chosen to represent the trust and security of partners and users in using the PAPAY app.
