Layout & Trade Dress

I enjoyed working on the trade dress for Songs of the Spellbound Sea, it gave me the opportunity to work on a fantasy book that focused more on magic and bards with a nautical twist. I really wanted to show the core elements of the gameplay on the design details so I incorporated an instrument handle and a helm to the bottom border. I also wanted to give a more nostalgic feeling to the pages, so I added a small inconspicuous illustration to the page texture of a boat traversing the seas on one page and reaching a harbor on the other.

I also had fun incorporating the images to the pages, I wanted them to be part of the layout and not just a block on text, so I found creative ways to mask them and make them interact with the spread. I often had to add some elements myself or make small edits to the illustrations.
