Sport Game 2D/3D Art Concepts

Playercards

I wanted to improve my 2D and 3D art skills outside of interaction design, so I challenged myself to create art assets for my fictional hockey game "Pro Hockey 25". I started with some player cards that I designed in Photoshop and I created the backgrounds in 3D in Blender so I could easily iterate on different looks.

Blender scene for the abstract hockey background, made from planes and self illuminating materials.

I designed some awards in the shape of hockey pucks and tried some texturing techniques using roughness maps and displacement maps to create an embossed gold effect.

I used 3 different textures applied to a cylinder with multiple area lights to create the puck renders.

To try some other styles I made some more player cards for a (also fictional) soccer game that is all about cubes as a design element.

The abstract Background is a Blender scene composed of a terrain, some cubes and some large area lights. The player portraits are created using generative AI.

I played some more with the cube theme for the soccer game and I modelled some medals and a trophy using the same techniques as above.
