BillDesk, Guided Discovery

πŸš€ Excited to share a glimpse of my latest project at BillDesk! πŸš€

In my new video, I delve into a recent design challenge involving modal interactions in our side drawer navigation. Specifically, when users select 'Masters' under the 'Upload' section, they are prompted to choose a system before proceeding. This design caters to admin users, offering complete system access and selection flexibility before entering the upload dashboard.

A common scenario we addressed involves frequent uploads under specific systems. Users often switch between sections, repeatedly encountering the system selection modal. Real user testing highlighted this pain point, leading to a new iteration where users can set a preferred system selection for their upload actions.Implemented a toggle feature for users to designate their preferred system, complemented by Guided discovery via shortcut coach marks. Users can quickly return to system selection with 'Control+H' if they wish to change their preference, enhancing overall efficiency and learning.By clicking 'I understand,' users can now bypass the system selection when accessing 'Masters,' with the option to return using 'Control+H.'

This update signifies significant progress, but our testing also revealed the need for better affordances to help users revisit and learn these shortcuts. This refinement is on our roadmap for future iterations.
