Poststamp | Odesa
Hey, Guys!
This is my version of a postage stamp dedicated to my hometown in Ukraine - Odessa (in Ukrainian - Odesa, with one "S"). The artwork is commemorating the city's anniversary: 230 years. The postage stamp features one of Odessa's famous landmarks: the monument to Duke de Richelieu.
The monument is dedicated to Armand Emmanuel du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu, who was one of the first governors of Odessa and played a significant role in the city's development. He was appointed as the governor of the Novorossiysk region in 1803 and held this position until 1814. Richelieu made a significant contribution to the development of Odessa, transforming it into a major port and trading center.
The Duke is depicted in full stature in Roman attire, symbolizing his importance and grandeur. In one hand, he holds a scroll symbolizing his contribution to the city's development, while with the other hand, he points forward, as if guiding Odessa's future.
This monument is one of the main symbols of Odessa, our guardian, standing on Primorsky Boulevard and overlooking the sea, watching for any enemy ships that might appear from the height of the Potemkin Stairs.
