The first issue of the Govtech | Europe. magazine

GovTech | Europe. provides the most relevant IT news for IT Government professionals. They introduce leaders of the industry to each other, sit down with industry experts and thought leaders, and peek into what’s around the corner.

As the designer, my goal was to create the layout and first issue of this publication. I was one of two graphic designers working on this project. My main responsibilities included designing the cover and editorial pages. Although the initial template sketches were created by another designer, I used them as a foundation, allowing me to build on existing concepts rather than starting from scratch.

  • I used a simple and well-structured grid, 2 colours and typography that was easy to read to achieve a modern and clean aesthetic. The layout has been designed with a minimalist approach, allowing the reader to focus on the content.

  • To ensure the magazine's readability, I carefully selected a font that met the requirements of being visually appealing, highly readable, and featuring clear and accurate symbols such as commas and quotes, etc.

  • I used 2 and 3-column layouts, which not only add visual interest but also present the magazine's content efficiently.

  • I developed a comprehensive design system, to ensure consistency across future issues of the magazine and enable other designers to work on the publication seamlessly. This system included guidelines for typography, colour usage, layout grid, paragraph styles, and design elements.

  • During the project, I collaborated closely with the editorial team to ensure that the design aligned with the content and effectively conveyed the key messages. The final magazine was delivered in 2.5 weeks with four iterations.
