The Mermaid Tavern

The Mermaid Tavern is a pub based in the heart of Prescot village. Based just over the road from the new Shakespeare North Theatre, The Mermaid Tavern takes ascendancy from a 1600s London pub that was owned by a close friend of Shakespeare who would frequently drink there. It was also where the plans for The Gunpowder plot were drawn up by Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators. A master of details, Shakespeare wove direct references to the gunpowder plot right into Macbeth. 

Drawing on the village’s medieval marketplace heritage, the brand takes influence from this era & aims to help bring the town’s historical heritage back to life by mixing the old with the new.
