Case Study: UI/UX Development for Dompet Mobile Banking Application

Background

Dompet is a mobile banking application designed to facilitate users in managing their finances. The app offers various features such as fund transfers, bill payments, balance checks, transaction reports, and investment management. The primary goal of Dompet is to provide a secure, fast, and user-friendly digital banking experience.

Objectives

  • Enhance user comfort and security in accessing banking services.

  • Minimize the time required for users to complete financial transactions.

  • Provide an intuitive and easy-to-use interface for all user demographics.

Design Approach

User Research

  • Surveys and Interviews: Engaged 150 potential users to understand their needs, concerns, and habits in using banking services.

  • Personas: Developed three main personas:

    • Rahmat, 25 years old, office worker: Uses the app for daily transactions and personal finance management.

    • Yanti, 40 years old, homemaker: Needs features for bill payments and family budget management.

    • Ikhsan, 55 years old, businessman: Seeks features supporting business account management and investments.

Prototyping and Wireframing

  • Low-Fidelity Wireframes: Created basic sketches for the main screen structure and user flow.

  • High-Fidelity Prototypes: Developed interactive prototypes using tools like Figma to gather more detailed feedback.

Design Principles

  • Simplicity: Simplified navigation with clear menus and easy-to-follow steps.

  • Security: Added two-factor authentication, facial recognition, and fingerprint recognition for added security.

  • Accessibility: Provided accessibility features such as scalable text, high-contrast mode, and screen reader support.

User Testing

  • Usability Testing: Conducted trial sessions with 12 users from various personas to identify navigation and feature usage issues.

  • Feedback Loop: Collected feedback and iterated the design based on findings from the testing.

Design Outcomes

Main Screen

  • Dashboard: Displays account balances, recent transactions, and shortcuts to main features like transfers and bill payments.

  • Bottom Navigation: Menu with icons for Home, Transactions, Payments, Card, and Profile.

Fund Transfer

  • Simple Steps: Users can transfer funds in three simple steps - select recipient, enter amount, confirm.

  • Recipient History: Feature to save frequently used recipients for quick transfers.

Bill Payments

  • Payment Categories: Allows users to choose payment categories like utilities, credit cards, and subscription services.

  • Payment Reminders: Feature to set reminders for due bills.

Investment Management

  • Investment Portfolio: Displays users’ investment performance with graphs and analysis.

  • Investment Recommendations: Provides investment advice based on users’ risk profiles.

Conclusion

Implementing a user-centered design approach has helped Dompet create an intuitive and secure mobile banking application. Users reported increased comfort and efficiency in managing their finances. Continuous user testing and design iteration ensure the app remains responsive to user needs and the latest digital banking trends.
