UX Design for Metro by T-mobile Activation Page

The Ask

Create a landing page for New and Existing customers to activate their devices, which requires an IMEI number and many customers struggle to find their IMEI. Previous efforts using copy to instruct New customers they could “dial #06#” to retrieve the IMEI were not effective. An additional goal was to reduce the amount of activation calls to Customer Service.

The Solution

I thought a slightly more interactive and visual approach would help customers complete the desired task. I presented two options to stakeholders, both utilizing iconography to guide customers and both featuring a lightbox with an animated dialer in simple Metro purple.

The chosen version, the second interactive prototype below, takes New and Existing customers down different paths to limit the amount of content and CTAs they have to see or engage, with Existing customers seeing only three CTAs. I also decided a stepped/numbered approached would provide both guidance and assurance to New Customers that the process can be completed in just three steps. I incorporated a small FAQ as additional help.
