Poster Design Entries for "Pendulum 2024 NA Tour" contest

We got creative and submitted four entries to the contest hosted by Oditi for the 2024 North American Tour of the Australian drum'n'bass band Pendulum.

Entry n.1

For this submission we went for classic approach, using the logo as the main center element in this stargate-like composition. The background image was generated with an AI tool, and was inspired by the light show and set design of Pendulum concerts. We used a squared and futuristic sans-serif typeface which pairs well with the overall aesthetics, and some glow and grainy effects to blend it all together.

Entry n.2

The concept of the poster is a revisitation of the visual of the Anima EP. The treatment of the eye in this case is photographic, so that there is continuity with the visual of the EP, but also a clear distinction from it, as it is a poster for the tour in DJ set format and not for the band. The eye is placed in a natural context, which is partly inspired by the videos projected during the band's live performances to give continuity to the image, and partly as a connection with North America; the woods seen in the photos are in fact North American forests, to further localize the project....

Entry n.3

Our idea was to design a minimal and futuristic-looking poster, using the main colors associated with Pendulum brand, so black red and white. We generated the main image with an AI tool, which serves both as background and main element, with different blending techniques and textures to give it a grittier look. The imagery is paired with several typefaces, including Pendulum's own, which I think complements each other well and give rhythm to the composition. We then used some distortion effects to both the image and the type to add a more dynamic effect.

Entry n.4

The poster is inspired by the late 2000s flyer design of self-managed social centres/squats. The main image, the maze logo, is sprayed with a stencil on a wall. This symbolizes the need of expression of a message by street and graffiti artists, an aesthetic that is often linked to the world of drum and bass, EDM, electronic music etc. The main infos, the tour dates, are positioned in the center, overlapping the wall element, and with a strong contrast with the background, for emphasizing their importance.
