Forgotten Streets Tram Co
Forgotten Streets is a visual identity project for a tram service in Leeds. This project celebrates the historic tram system and incorporates Egyptian-inspired design elements from that era.
Blending nostalgic and historical aesthetics, "Forgotten Streets" reconnects the community with Leeds’ rich transportation heritage.
The tram line is envisioned not as a functional service but as a vehicle to showcase the lost streets and the history they represent.
The visual identity of "Forgotten Streets" includes a logomark inspired by the iconic tram designs of the past.
The project incorporates original film photographs of the old tramline, slightly edited to create a cohesive visual identity.
The typography is influenced by the 3D road signs found across Leeds, featuring distinctive Egyptian serifs.
Additionally, the colour palette is derived directly from the historical trams, maintaining an authentic connection to Leeds’ transportation history.
The idea of "Forgotten Streets" began with an exploration of old maps, revealing significant changes in development and the disappearance of street names and the tram infrastructure.
This historical research was pivotal in shaping the project's direction and ensuring an authentic representation of Leeds’ transportation legacy built within the 'rebrand' of the old Leeds tram service.
