STORYBOARD - COMIC

For this school project, it was proposed the creation of a comic with the theme being personal routine.

THEME

The approach chosen for the "routine" theme was the monotony of my routine with the burdens of my mental disorders. The goal was to make a melancholic piece in which each element and panel were understood that way.

CONCEPTUALIZATION

To emphasize the routine's melancholy, a monochromatic palette based on purple was used, with a single secondary color to highlight certain elements when necessary. The monotonous life is represented with the loss of identity and individuality, that's why the usage of darkness and scratching in the character's visage. Also, the fight with mental disorders are defined by the lack of identity, but also with the quietude of the environments except for the phone, which is used as an escape from the monotonous.

The sketching process was quick since the concept and theming were well defined. It started as a single rectangle, of which I "sculpted" the panels one by one.

With the sketch done, the framing of the panels were defined, to facilitate the more detailed second sketch of each panel, without the elements and texts.

The method used to render this illustration was blocking out by colour – starting from the darkest colour, with the palette decided – using the lasso tool in Photoshop.
