12"x32" Oil on Board

Another adventure in painting. I had several different concepts painting on this board and nothing really spoke to me. So, I kept painting over what I had until I just got so frustrated that I put the painting aside for a few months. During the course of those months, I began to see a bit of mountains and sky, so that is where I took this piece. I'm still developing the loose mark making for shapes and an owl in flight was a perfect subject for this rectangular piece. I wanted to have more details in the owl,  but those details would detract from the movement that was happening. The challenging part was to avoid much detail in the face. I painted the face 3 times until we got this current one that is more ghostly than horrifying. It was Lots of fun painting the wings, and getting into capturing the motion of air and flight through them.
