Self-Portrait Avatars

2024 Self-Portrait

Since about 2015 I've been making small self-portraits of myself to serve as icons. These are meant to represent me and as I've built them up over time, they represent a timeline of sorts of not just myself but my style, design, and skills

The most recent portrait of myself incorporates a lot of the previous styles in it, but definitely represents a me that was very different from when I started doing this about 9 years ago. I've grown and changed a lot in the intervening time and this portrait in many ways feels like the most accurate me. Though each portrait has likely represented that at the time.

2021

This year broke the mold and I tried a brand new style of a self-portrait. I eventually did an updated version with a more accurate hair color (as my dye faded), but this was the original version

2020

I decided to take what I'd done with previous iterations and simplify it significantly. These two variations are similar but were done at different parts of the year.

2019

This was the year I transitioned so I that factored significantly on my portrait and how I wanted to present myself

2018

I had started dying my hair and wanted that represented in my portraits of myself, but was also trying to figure how to balance my own identity, which I had not yet revealed, and my public self. What I came up with is maybe neither.

2015

A true first attempt. Beyond me not actually being present in this icon, this is also likely the least me both now and then. While the sharp lines make for a striking contrast with the bright blue, I can't see myself in any part of this looking back.
