Vintage Faux Ice Cream Box
As a practice of practical design to expand my skillset, I designed, printed and crafted a faux piece of ephemera packaging for friend, Shermy, who is an avid collector of vintage ice cream boxes and in an all-girl 60s surf band.
Inspiration was taken from real vintage boxes, but primarily from the 1960s "Beatle Bar" packaging. I wanted to emphasize on the "collector" value by making it a single caricature, then simplify the artwork and palette to match other boxes in her collection.
I researched ice cream packaging details, the printing process and dimensions to make this piece appear as authentic as possible. The cardstock for printing was even chosen to get the worn edge look. Al artwork, excluding the logo and tex, was drawn by hand.
This project was an exceptional exercise in design and the perfect tool to cure artist block. It was a learning experience to oversee a project from conceptualization to final, physical project.
