Deutschlandtiq - The nationwide public transport ticket app

Understanding the Challenge

The Deutschlandticket (also known as the 49-Euro-Ticket, a subscription for all local public transport, valid in the whole of Germany) posed a challenge for small to medium-sized public transport operators and authorities in Germany.

The project aimed to address two main problem statements:

B2P: Limited resources hindered public transport operators from developing in-house solutions.

B2C: German citizens sought a simple, secure subscription process for the Deutschlandticket.

Design Sprint Approach

The design sprint focused on:

  • Establishing a long-term product vision

  • Defining the MVP for quick development and testing.

My role in the design sprint

  • Creating a high-fidelity prototype for user testing that answers to the most desired functionalities.

  • Prioritising user experience.

  • Designing a scalable architecture.

Design Process and Deliverables

  • High-Fidelity Prototype: Mimicked the final product for realistic testing.

  • User-Centric Design: Streamlined subscription process for end-users.

Results and Impact

The outcome was a desirable solution:

  • Empowered all stakeholders in better understanding and envisioning the next steps of the project.

  • Enabled the team to perform usability tests to examine the desirability and usability of the solution suggested

Conclusion

Through a collaborative design sprint, we developed a solution that addressed immediate needs while laying the foundation for future innovation in public transportation.
