Hi Dribbble Friends!
A bit more than a month ago was my first day hopping on the hype train that is Affinity Designer. I was determined to give it a try and delivered a few thoughts on it. Now that I used it on various complex projects during this period, especially for illustrations and icons. I feel like I can give it a try for a UI interface in order to compare to sketch, one of my favorite application who have changed my approach towards design process.
A one-month trial period with Affinity Designer :
1. UI Focused Interface
Sketch is a winner here because it has almost every single feature needed but i'is definitely not for Illustrators and purely Graphic designers. If you are looking for illustrations, I would recommend you Affinity Designer than Sketch and Illustrator.
2. Artboard
Again Sketch is a winner because artboards allow you to create fixed frames on the open canvas. If you’re creating a responsive web design or a mobile app for different devices, you may want to turn each screen size into an artboard. Today, Affinity Designer isn’t able to pull them off. I hope it’ll change soon.
3. Export
I like what Affinity is doing. It allows you to import PSD files and export your Affinity made designs to PSD also. With Sketch, you may not be able to import and export PSD files. PSD format is a standard after all and, it’ll stay that way for a while. Again I hope it’ll change soon.
I gave you a quick sneak about about my feeling with Affinity Designer. I would love to hear more from you! You can check out the preview for more details.
