Porcupine Mountains

Hand-drawn monoline illustration done in pencil, finished in Procreate.

I wanted to convey the meeting of the Porcupine Mountains (State park in U.P. of Michigan) with Lake Superior, also known as the Gitche Gumee or Big Water.

I envisioned clean, geometric lines in angular form to symbolize the rocks and trees, and smooth curves for symbolize the water and big waves of our 'inland ocean' coast.

I like to do this line art by hand to retain the subtle imperfections. I thought this type (Fields) really tied to room together, as a great man once said. The rounded serif feels a little retro with a campy charm.
