Pointe Dance Studio Invitation
This invitation is a part of a project designing a visual identity for an elite dance studio that balances exclusivity and elevation with grace.
From a design standpoint, I wanted to navigate how dreamy and beautiful imagery plays with more disciplined, no-nonsense typography and design elements to represent the beauty and juxtaposition of this type of dance.
I did not want to go "pretty ballerina" but instead drew inspiration from the "tough" positioning that other elite athletic/sports brands typically rep and worked to find balance with the aspirational beauty and grace that is the result in this case.
I also drew inspiration from high fashion. As the industry home to some of the most notorious exclusivity-driven brands I could think of, I thought it's be a good starting point to explore how they communicate that exclusivity through design-- both for their customers, and how they use it to cast an aspirational shadow over those who aren't. This meant exploring fashion show invitations and editorials to see how they utilize core aspects of design like typography, color, and layout. I'll share more on that next time!
I love design!!! I still have sooooo much to learn and I take so much pride in being a designer and having the privilege to continue exploring and learning bit by bit every day. Writing this out and realizing that a legitimate aspect of my work is exploring fashion week invitations and editorial archives is something I could have never even dreamed of, I feel so lucky and grateful.
