Welcome to the Wines of the World series, where today we're spotlighting Saint-Emilion. Recently, I've become captivated by the vast array of wines the world has to offer. Inspired by my New Year's resolution to create a new piece of work every day, I've decided to design a unique wine label for each type of wine I explore.

About Saint-Emilion

Saint-Emilion is a storied wine from the Bordeaux region of France, known for its deep, complex flavors and rich history. This red wine is primarily made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, which imbue it with lush, velvety textures and notes of plum, fig, and subtle spices. Revered not only for its exquisite taste but also for its prestigious heritage, Saint-Emilion wines are celebrated worldwide, often aging beautifully and gaining nuanced character over time. The wine is perfect for pairing with hearty meats and aged cheeses, making it a beloved choice for connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike.

About the design

Recently, I've been scouring the collections of the British Library, the Library of Congress, and various online archives for historical illustrations. For the Saint-Emilion label I discovered this vintage engraving of a Fete or party in French. Fro there the idea for this wine label grew into the label above. I paired an elegant serif font to match the vintage aesthetic.
