Sancerre Wine Label
Welcome to the Wines of the World series, where today we're spotlighting Sancerre. Recently, I've become captivated by the vast array of wines the world has to offer. Inspired by my New Year's resolution to create a new piece of work every day, I've decided to design a unique wine label for each type of wine I explore.
About Sancerre
Sancerre is a renowned French white wine, celebrated for its crisp, aromatic profile with vibrant notes of citrus and flint. Originating from the Loire Valley, this wine is primarily made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, offering a refreshing acidity that makes it a favorite among white wine enthusiasts. Sancerre pairs beautifully with seafood, goat cheese, and salads, making it a versatile choice for various culinary occasions.
About the Design
Recently, I've been scouring the collections of the British Library, the Library of Congress, and various online archives for historical botanical illustrations. For the Sancerre label, I've chosen an illustration of a vibrant, yellow-green Ti plant, capturing the wine's fresh essence. This is paired with an elegant, old-world script font that reflects the storied tradition of winemaking.
