A chance to take on an unusual (for me) project to design and build an end user content focused blog.

For this website I needed a flexible and expandable CMS with a user friendly workflow and a design that would remain complimentary to the content but still stand out amongst peers.

For the backend framework I used:

Wordpress/Elementor Pro/Custom Hello Theme

This is my typical approach to any Wordpress website I am building. Using Elementor Pro keeps the backend light by reducing the amount of plugins needed for modern functionality, and I have a customized version of the Hello theme that is built for speed. Using Elementor Pro will also allow me to use custom CSS and JS on pages without conflicts.

On top of the base stack I added:

SEOPress Pro

Hummingbird

Smush

WP SMTP

SEOPress is the best SEO plugin I have ever used. Combining Hummingbird and Smush make the page speed super fast. And WP SMTP is used because the email accounts are self hosted, it instantly helps with emails being sent not ending up in Spam folders or rejected altogether.

The design

The design of the website is purposefully minimal to keep the focus on the content. Soft whites for the background and a deep purple for the primary color and some text accents are used throughout the pages for a rich and approachable aesthetic.
