Gabriel Batistuta, Ipswich

This illustration was part of a project entitled Nearly Men whereby myself and a group of illustrators each designed a player who almost joined a team or was heavily rumoured to be joining them. My choice was Gabriel Batistuta, one of my all-time favourite players. Back in 1994, Ipswich were linked with a big-money move for the Argentinian who was at Fiorentina at the time. In the end, Ipswich signed a different South American and were relegated that season. Oh well.
