Bar Height Table with Steel Patinated Base
This bespoke custom bar-height wine-tasting table complements my client’s wine room.
The base of this table is constructed from steel and treated with a blend of chemicals to achieve a distinctive patina, resulting in a beautiful marbled, aged copper finish. The copper tones in the steel base accentuate the copper-colored veining in the marble countertops, while the greens from the patination process harmonize with the green velvet chairs.
For the tabletop, I selected Wenge wood, which complements the dark espresso stain of the cabinetry. The tabletop is finished with a clear coat that enhances the wood's natural deep espresso brown hue, adding to the overall aesthetic of the piece.
The bar-height table is comfortable at 42” tall. Its spacious top measures 40” wide by 86” long and 4” thick. The top is not solid but a torsion box veneered with shop-sawn wenge. It is weighted with concrete bucks placed inside to prevent the slim base from tipping over.
