Vinyl - Virtual Drive Turntable System

This is a project I was developing some time ago with a small team of students from Stanford University.
(Product design by Jack Kim - http://bit.ly/1NHUKL5).
It was a personal non-commercial project.

Unfortunatelly, and as sometimes happens, the project didn't get to finally see the light, but still it was a really nice collaboration and I'm quite happy about the artwork I got to produce for it.

Essentially, we wanted to portray the incredible transition from the analog era of music to the digital, Internet-connected era of music today by building a completely skeuomorphic vinyl record player online. You'd be able to add tracks or full LPs to your virtual collection in a matter of seconds, and be able to stream any song in the world, wherever you are (we were using multiple audio sources on the technical side, including YouTube, SoundCloud, etc). The main point was to demonstrate what the Internet has allowed us to do today by juxtaposing the then-and-now process of simply listening to a song you want - to showcase the incredibly eased process of a task that once required you to get out of your house, go to a record store, buy a full LP (if it was even available at the store), and set it on a record player. With this project, we hoped to remind people of how the Internet has truly changed the very way we live every day through the universal language of music.

So the web app itself consisted of two major parts - the record player and the collection interface (didn't get to design the collection as the project was stopped before that). We wanted every aspect of the project to be skeuomorphic, so each track would be represented by a vinyl record and every button (such as settings or volume) would look like a physical knob/switch on the record player interface.

We took a Technics turntable as a reference for the interface: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_image/product/43978-technics-sl1210-mk5-gturntable-black--large.jpg and also the work done by Ramotion on their Turntable as inspiration and standard of the quality we wanted to deliver: https://turnplay.ramotion.com/
