Pattern Design
For this pattern design, I imagined that I was creating work for a small stationary shop owner. She requested a floral design for her spring collection of prints.
For this design, I was inspired by retro patterns as well as risograph prints. While risographs often feature overlapping colors, I was more interested in the bold, saturated colors that often feature in risograph prints. Risographs can also make use of simple lines because the colors are typically more limited.
I made a few floral sketches to use within the design. I originally thought of a rectangular pattern but decided to use a diamond shape instead. While I created three different floral sketches, I narrowed the final design down to only use two. The shapes worked better within the diamonds and the lines read clearly in both color and black.
