Principles of Design Infographic
This is a project I created as a learning exercise. I wanted to study the principles of design in order to better implement them in my work. I also wrote a brief for this project to imagine that I was designing an infographic poster for a client.
In my brief, I imagine that an art teacher, Mrs. Bates, is seeking a designer to create a poster for her classroom redesign. She requested a infographic to help teach her students about the principles of design. She asked for the infographic to be visually interesting, and easily digestible even from a distance.
I began this project by collecting references and creating a moodboard. I was interested in shades of purple because I wanted to create a monochromatic design. The purple would be eye-catching but not overly bright. The references that interested me utilized geometric shapes with elements that overlapped between boxes.
The research/sketch part of my process. I wanted the illustrations to take up the majority of the space, but I struggled with finding a place for the words.
I kept the illustrations for each principle simple, so they could be easily understood, even if a student was only glancing at them from around the classroom.
