Functional illustrations Vermietet.de

Before Vermietet.de became part of Immoscout24's family, I created part of its visual identity based on its new temporary CI (corporate identity). During this phase, I contributed to writing new CI guidelines and developing various design elements, including icons, illustrations, and other graphics, that represented Vermietet.de's brand.

These visuals played a crucial role in conveying Vermietet.de's services and message to its audience consistently and recognizably.

It was an exciting journey to be part of rebranding Vermietet.de's identity, and it laid the foundation for its eventual transition into a company under the Immoscout24 umbrella.

This experience underscored my ability to craft visual identities that resonate with a brand's ethos and effectively communicate its offerings.

The process

Step 1: Define sizes per touchpoint

  • Identify where illustrations and icons will be used.

  • Gather all the illustrations and icons for these areas.

  • Decide on the sizes for these visuals to ensure they look good everywhere.

Understand the differences between three types of visuals:

  • Functional Illustrations (Icons): These simple pictures help you navigate the product.

  • Descriptive Illustrations: These are more detailed illustrations that explain functionalities within the product.

  • Expressive Illustrations: These are artistic illustrations meant to evoke emotions or set a mood, rather than directly depict the product's functionality.

Knowing these differences helps you pick the right visuals for each part of the product, making everything clear and consistent.

Step 2: Redesign existing illustrations

Making our Illustrations more compliant with Scout24 CI guidelines without losing our identity.
It's all about keeping our company's look while using colors from Scout24's infographics. We mix these with our blue to keep things familiar.

Step 3: Border weight and roundness

Next, We needed to make things smoother and nicer to look at. We use thinner lines and softer, rounded colors. This step helps tidy things up and makes our visuals easier on the eye.

Step 4: Simplify

Then, we simplify even more. We get rid of anything we don't need and focus on symbols that mean something. We play around with straight lines and rounded shapes to find the perfect balance. Plus, we make our colors stronger to get our message across.

Step 5: Defining Our Unique Identity Within Scout24

During this process, significant decisions were made. Our management has decided that Vermietet.de should operate as a satellite company of Scout24, maintaining our unique identity.

We've crafted new guidelines that reflect our identity within the Scout24 network. Essentially, we continue to use Scout24 colors, but with a distinct look to avoid resembling Scout24 too closely.

This move enables us to assert our independence while remaining loyal to our origins.

In terms of illustrations, these decisions have resulted in the following outcomes.
