Cat Power Sings Dylan The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert March 4
Dylan’s self-titled first album was released in March 1962 to mixed reviews. His singing – a cowboy lament mixed with Midwestern brogue, with an obvious nod to Guthrie – confused many critics. It’s a sound that takes a while to get used to. By comparison, Dylan’s second album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, sounds like a clarion call. Young ears everywhere quickly picked up on his quirky voice, which divided parents and children, and saw him as part of a growing counterculture, “a rebel with a cause ”.
