Problem Statement

I'm a big fan of the Harry Potter franchise. While rewatching and reading their books, I noticed that they have two major ranking systems in place in their worldbuilding- The House Cup and Quidditch. Quidditch would add to points for the House Cup, but the sport itself can present an opportunity for a proper leaderboard, like many other real-life sports.

Thus, I thought this challenge paired well with the context of leaderboards in Harry Potter, and focused on designing what a leaderboard page looks like in the context of a student dashboard (I was inspired by Canvas, if Canvas had a feature for university sports).

Conceptual Functionality

On the House Cup page, students are showcased alongside the leading house and their recent activities. The house with the highest points is prominently displayed, featuring an hourglass. This idea was inspired by how house points are represented in the game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. This hourglass visually represents the points currently allocated to the leading house, with sand at the bottom, and the points yet to be added, represented by sand at the top.

In the 'Recent Activity' section, the system dynamically updates to show the most recent points rewarded or deducted to a student. To maintain a respectful atmosphere and prevent any unnecessary competition or ridicule between houses, the activity feed can be filtered by house, displaying only the relevant actions for a student's own house, or by viewing actions across all houses.
