Kanote

Kanote is a traditional Myanmar floral pattern commonly used in architecture, wood, silver and bronze carvings. The intricacies and symmetry are what make Kanote so appealing and beautiful.

The Kanote pattern begins as a horizontal ’S’, that must be perfected before other details are added on. Often the Kanote pattern takes on a floral look, as organic leaf and petal shapes are added on.

Kanote patterns also relates back to one of the four original paintings styles in Myanmar, which is often a floral and abstract type pattern. There are also Nari, Gazza, and Kappi. Nari is the depiction of human bodies, while Kapi depicts animals and mythical creatures. Gazza is the illustration of an elephant. Artists would draw on palm leaves, and roll them up to be transported.
