Memories of Naminoue in Naha, Okinawa【波上宮 · 沖縄 那覇市】
Background:
Naminoue holds special significance to my family and to many fellow Uchinaanchu (Okinawans).
Part of my family sought refuge in the area during challenging times. Today, many visit the Shrine as well as the public beach there.
Inspiration:
This watercolor design was inspired by the harmony between nature and spirituality that defines this area.
It was originally intended as a postcard to share with friends and family.
Other Notes About Design:
This version is part of my practice to combine analog + digital art.
I took artistic license and kept the shrine and nature as focal point, opting not to include the modern cityscape surrounding it.
Feedback and Requests:
Initially, I printed a few copies locally but, by request, I now share the Naminoue postcard for others too.
Do you have your own connection to the place? Does this inspire you to visit? I'd love to hear.
As always, your feedback is appreciated as I continue to learn. Thank you ~ Ippe nifee debiru!
Here is a mockup of the Naminoue postcard in a frame with simple matting, in case someone wants to place the keepsake on their wall rather than their refrigerator or scrapbook.
