Idiom Story: lit. melon field and plum tree

During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, a governor, who was a "clean official", went out alone to visit an old friend.

Along the way, he was delighted by the beautiful scenery.

The next morning, he passed by a watermelon field with many big, round watermelons.

Aigoo, Taishou tripped over the watermelon vines and dropped a shoe in the melon field!

He wanted to look down to pick up the shoe, but he was afraid of being told that he was stealing a watermelon, so he didn't know what to do for a moment.

Then he had to walk out of the watermelon field barefoot and discarded the shoe in the watermelon field.

After walking some more, he came to a plum tree, because he kept his bare feet and walked with his head down.

Oops, his hat was hanging crooked from the branch above his head~

He wanted to look up to straighten his hat, but he was afraid of being told that he was stealing plums, and for a moment he didn't know what to do.

Then, he had to leave the plum tree with his crooked hat on.

It was such a difficult journey for the Taishou.

Melon field and plum tree: When you pass by a melon field, don't bend down to lift your shoes, lest you be suspected of stealing the melon;

Walking under the plum tree, don't raise your hand to straighten your hat, lest you be suspected of stealing plums. Metaphorically speaking, it is easy to arouse suspicion on the occasion.

Sentence: As long as one walks right, there is nothing to worry about even under the melon and plum.

I'm so great, I'm a ha-ha rabbit.

Quack~Quack~
