Assyrian Bloodfly

A part of my "Exotic Pompeii Collection" a series of made up insect illustrations.

Assyrian Bloodfly
Vampirus Lateralius
Rarity: Very common

These small red flies are also known as red devils. The bloodfly saps human and animal blood, and injects bloodfly eggs under the skin for incubation. Bloodfly blisters were a common malady of the time.
