Vase Beetle

A part of my "Exotic Pompeii Collection" a series of made up insect illustrations.

Vase Beetle
Cerama Exotica
Rarity: Commonplace

The Vase Beetle, or potter’s Beetle, are strong, umber colored beetles with geometric ornamentation on their backs. The Beetles are commonly ground to a paste and used as a colored glaze for pompeii pottery. The patterns on their back serve as the inspiration for ornamentation for pottery design.
