About This Project
I created the flyer (A4, double-sided) and poster (A2, single-sided) for the annual contemporary art exhibition "Minokamo Annual 2018" held at Minokamo Cultural forest / Minokamo City Museum in Minokamo, Gifu Prefecture.
In previous years, the design of the flyer was rotated among participating artists (who were mainly specialized in fine art and had a basic knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop but were not professional designers).
However, this year, as one of the participating artists and also someone experienced in graphic design, I took charge of creating the flyer. Since then, I have continued to handle the design work regularly.
Some improvements I made in terms of design and promotion since taking over include creating a map of the exhibition site to address feedback from visitors about the difficulty in understanding the layout of the premises. The map was included on the back of the flyer. I also simultaneously created the poster, making it suitable for display in art museums and art universities in the Tokai region.
The theme of this exhibition was "Scorching (Burning)," which was unexpected for an exhibition taking place in a forest. To reflect this unique theme, I completely renewed the design image of the flyer. I chose colors that resembled flames, with a slightly reddish tone, along with a dominant ash-like white color. However, considering that the artworks of participating artists were not overly intense, I aimed to achieve a balance of tranquility. I consciously used less saturated colors and incorporated transparent effects to create a delicate atmosphere.
The imagery used in the flyer and poster consists of actual photos taken by me on-site at Minokamo Cultural forest, the venue of the exhibition.
