News app - Short news - Tech news

📱 About

Tech Pulse is a 📰short news app that shows the tech news, events, workshops, Tips, Tricks, and tech awareness in around 70 words.

📑Problem Statement

With the dominating rise of news aggregators and people preferring multiple sources of news, it becomes difficult to get users to read & stick to one platform. Our aim is to create a tech news app that users love!

🪄Project goal

1. To give tech updates and a better experience to the users.

2. Enhancing user experience and providing some rewards so that they stick to the app and keep browsing more news and articles thus increasing app time and usage.

3. Fit monetization strategies that actually work with the user experience considering the rise of ad-blockers and provide options beyond paywalls.

4. Fit in special features that are unique for different news channels and their apps.

5. Boost productivity for the users and give them exactly what they are looking out for.

📊Competitor Analysis

There are plenty of News Apps available on the Playstore based on big Newspaper/News Channel companies like BBC News, Times of India, NDTV, and other independent apps like Opera News, Dailyhunt, NewsBulb, and so on.

But only a few have been identified as a competitor considering its similar characteristics to this project and also something unique to them Way32news, Aadhan, Inshorts, and Softpedia,

📝 User Interview

I took on-call interviews of 10 people between ages 18-45 & asked them questions regarding

  1. Which news apps do you use and why do you like them? Do you use any tech-only news app?

  2. What problems do you face when consuming news? What is something that annoys you about news apps?

  3. Are there any features in news apps that you find particularly time-consuming or inefficient?

  4. Have you found any useful and practical content in the news apps you use, or do you mostly read and forget?

  5. How do you stay informed about local tech events and workshops? Do you rely on news apps or other sources?

  6. On average, how many times a day do you check out the news on your apps?

🌏Key findings

1. Annoying Ads -All participants thought the same if the ads were disturbing.

2. Time Reading News  - They like easy to read type news

3. Need Trigger — Most of the participants need triggers that motivate them to read the news, for example triggering with trending news.

4. Cant find all tech-related information in one place

5. Look for short news & get news from Fb, Twitter, etc

6. Some times they missed interested events

🌻 Section 2 : Business Model

Survey data & targeted Notifications

Allow users to input some data and take surveys from the user. You can sell survey data without actual information about the user.

Sponsored articles

Many news channels, while getting paid, do not mention the sponsored article or partner with someone.

Advertisements

Ads should focus on being related to a topic or article rather than getting data about the user, push ads around the topic. Show ads related to the article if possible.

Special articles with subscriptions

Freemium - like medium, providing many free articles but also some special articles. Give them a glimpse of what it is like in the special article or allow them to get a few special articles per month.
