Still life of eggplant and pear

I painted this composition of the pear and eggplant as a study to improve my ability to realistically portray objects by capturing the accurate details of the light and shadow on and cast by the objects—the form shadows and cast shadows. This project was a study that I worked on for several weeks, practicing the Renaissance masters' layering techniques that I learned from my teacher in Oakland.
