Intercom Design

With the development of technology, the variety of intercoms is becoming larger, and devices with a camera and other functions are becoming even more complex.Of course, you probably know how to use the intercom in your home, but do your guests and couriers use it easily as well?With the transition to remote work during quarantine due to Covid, we looked at this inconspicuous device from a slightly different angle. In new realities, we began to use food and goods delivery services more often, and a term 'Contactless Delivery' has become something commonplace.

During a pilot field study, we noticed that in new buildings where new models of smart intercoms are installed, older people face some difficulties when opening the door. We asked ourselves the following questions: Is adding complexity to an everyday device really worthwhile? What if we try to improve the most ordinary device without a significant increase in price and a ‘smart’ word?Living in Kharkiv, we have focused on researching intercom interaction in our city and invite you to walk with us step by step through the design process developed for this case.
