Netflix: A UI Mobile-First Overhaul
Project
Despite Netflix taking up the cozy residence within the hearts of millions as the leading at-home streaming service, I wanted to demonstrate how the user experience could be greatly improved by adopting a mobile-first approach for users seeking entertainment on-to-go, who are continually let down by the interface's limitations.
Giving myself 24 hours, I sought to tackle this mobile redesign challenge by addressing the app's information architecture while incorporating rich visual elements that provided impetus and established a clear hierarchy.
Approach
The project involved building interactive clones of key pages, conducting heuristic and visual competitor analyses, and modernizing the color palette while retaining Netflix's playful aesthetic. A minor logo adjustment aimed for a more contemporary look.
Outcome
The redesigned Home Page aimed at improving visual impact and usability, providing user control, enabling multiple lists, and optimizing movie cards. The Product Page emphasized a full-screen title image and trailer, streamlined information architecture, and improved episode cards. The Quick Laughs Page also saw enhancements for a better landing experience and improved navigation.
Despite time constraints, the focus on information architecture yielded quick usability improvements, with potential future enhancements identified, including microinteractions and engagement features.
