I had the privilege of designing the cover for a book my partner & I created. It is a journaling experience for a variety of popular categories in the world of Cinema.

Inspiration

I took inspiration from form design & modern abstraction in book series. This book is intended for both personal use to record your favorite moments in film & also easy to share together with loved ones to rank and debate each others choices. I aimed for the cover to reflect both settings.

Sketches

When brainstorming through the initial round of sketching, I focused on simplicity & a strong visual hierarchy. I played with both literal and abstracts references to cinema.

Color Pallet

The goal for this color study was to create a larger color system for scalable applications. This book is the first of a future series. Each one with it's own color pallet and overall topic. When placed together each book will carry its own identity while belonging to a family.

Iteration

After refining the colors, I made sure to stay within the style parameters I previously set for this project. The changing proportions & compositions of these color shapes each set their own tone for interpretation.

Final Cover

The final Cover displays a sober yet refreshing design that easily lends itself to a potential series of covers with an expanded color pallet. The main focal point of this cover is the text. The color peaking on the front is just enough to make you curious about what is on the back. The spine is also in full color to stand out on a shelf.
