Offering Witness mobile view

For this project, I designed the UI and UX, and developed a gentle but somber visual language to be used throughout the site - creating a tool for historical education, activism, and ongoing storytelling.

Created as a response to ahistorical conversations around the murder of eight massage workers in 2021, Offering Witness provides a resource for folx to learn about the long history of anti-Asian violence and resistance in American history. The mobile prototype offers timelines that link the intertwined violence of the empire, the racial state, and vigilante violence - both at home and abroad. Our goals were to clearly communicate the historical ties present within the dataset, create a user-friendly way to engage the public with the research, and sensitively bring readers into a nuanced conversation that bares witness to the ongoing violence, and the ongoing resistance.
